YF&R Collegiate Discussion Meet: January 2025 in Cody
2025 Discussion Meet Questions
The Collegiate Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each college-age participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. The judges are looking for the contestant that offers constructive criticism, cooperation, and communication while analyzing agricultural problems and developing solutions. The competition is open to all University of Wyoming and Wyoming junior college students with an interest in agriculture.
The winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize and expense reimbursement to the national competition.
Prizes
The winner of the WyFB Collegiate Discussion Meet will receive:
- $1,000 cash prize from Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation
- Trip to the American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R Conference held in March to compete in the national competition for college scholarships
The runner-up receives:
- $150 cash award from the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation
YF&R Regular Discussion Meet - Offered Annually in November
The Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. Participants build basic discussion skills, develop a keen understanding of important agricultural issues and explore how groups can pool knowledge to reach consensus and solve problems.

Prizes
The winner of the WyFB Discussion Meet contest receives the following:
- $500 cash prize
- Trip to AFBF annual meeting held in January to compete in the National Discussion Meet.
YF&R Achievement Award
The Achievement Award recognizes Young Farmers & Ranchers who have excelled in their farm or ranch and have honed their leadership abilities to superiority. Participants are involved in production agriculture with a majority of their income subject to normal production risks. Judges evaluate competitor’s excellence in management, growth and scope of their enterprise and self-initiative that have been displayed throughout the farm or ranch.
The ideal candidate(s) for the Achievement Award is an individual or couple involved in production agriculture with a majority of his/her net income subject to normal production risks.

YF&R Excellence in Agriculture Award
The Excellence in Agriculture Award spotlights young Farm Bureau members who are agricultural enthusiasts but have not earned a majority of their income from an owned production agriculture enterprise in the past three years. Competitors are evaluated on their understanding of agricultural issues, leadership experiences and achievement, and their ability to communicate their agricultural story.
The ideal candidate(s) for the Excellence in Agriculture Award is an individual or couple who do not have the majority of his/her income subject to normal production risk.
