Wyoming families facing hunger received a boost mid-November with the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Committee “Harvest for All” project. The annual food and fund drive to benefit Feeding America food bank affiliates in Wyoming raised the equivalent of 5,685 meals for Wyoming families.

The 2015 “Harvest for All” project benefited the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies (WFBR) based in Casper and the Cody Cupboard in Cody.

During the state annual meeting Nov. 12-14, 2015 in Cody, County Farm Bureaus and individual members from across the state donated food and money to help the food banks in their work with hunger-relief programs across the state of Wyoming. A raffle for a KitchenAid mixer also helped raised funds for the Harvest for All project.

Carbon County Rancher Chalsey Kortes chairs the sub-committee that oversees the “Harvest for All” project. According to Kortes, the project was a success thanks to the contributions of Farm Bureau members and county Farm Bureaus who donated food, cash and purchased raffle tickets. “I am so proud of our members,” Kortes exclaimed. “The amount of food and funds raised during our meeting will feed many Wyomingites! The generosity of our members will be felt through the 5,685 meals provided through the annual meeting drive.”

The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies was the recipient of $1,360 in monetary donations which is equivalent to 5,440 meals.

The Cody Cupboard received 35 pounds of food and a $50 monetary donation which is equivalent to 245 meals.

The WyFB Young Farmer & Rancher Committee is in its thirteenth year of joining with the American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R Committee in what is called a “Harvest for All.” Throughout the program’s thirteen year span, the WyFB YF&R Committee has partnered with Farm Bureau members to raise 5,669 pounds of food, $14,509 and 74 man hours of volunteer time to help those facing hunger in Wyoming.
