“Celebrating our Heritage…Pursuing our Future” is the theme for the 95th Annual Meeting of the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation (WyFB). The meeting will be Nov. 13-15, 2014 at the Holiday Inn in Sheridan.
Policy discussion is the main purpose of the meeting and guides the work of the organization. According to Ken Hamilton, WyFB Executive Vice President, the resolutions range from support for CDL driver’s license changes to groundwater control areas; and from trespass laws to Big Horn and Domestic Sheep issues.
Farmers and Ranchers from around the state will meet to continue the grassroots policy development process that began at the county level where members discussed issues important to agriculture. Those resolutions passing the county level proceed to the district level for consideration and then those the district passed are considered at the state level.
The featured speaker from the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) is John Anderson, Deputy Chief Economist for AFBF. Anderson will speak Nov. 14 at 2:15 p.m. about the importance of trade to agriculture and he will provide a cattle market outlook.
A screening of the film “Farmland” will be shown at 9:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 14. According to the Farmland Film website, “Through this film from award-winning director, James Moll, you’ll step inside the world of farming for a first-hand glimpse into the lives of young farmers and ranchers. Learn about their high-risk/high-reward jobs and passion for a way of life that has been passed down from generation to generation, yet continues to evolve.”
Young Farmer and Rancher (YF&R) events will also showcase some of the many opportunities available for our younger leaders in the agricultural community of Farm Bureau. Sheridan College is hosting the YF&R Collegiate Discussion Meet at 5 p.m. on Thursday evening, Nov. 13. Students from Sheridan College, Eastern Wyoming College, Northwest College and the University of Wyoming will compete.
Elections, awards, and a “Harvest for All” food drive round out the meeting events.
