“The tax reform package passed by Congress this week will result in lower taxes for the vast majority of farmers and ranchers. This tax overhaul includes many changes to the tax code, most notably lower individual tax rates, that will benefit farmers and ranchers. Ninety-four percent of farmers and ranchers pay taxes as individuals, and those rates are coming down. The bill also maintains all of the important deductions and credits that farmers rely on. So, thanks to a lot of hard work by Congress and the administration, farmers will have both lower rates and all the tools they’ve always had to manage their businesses,” said Zippy Duvall, American Farm Bureau Federation President. On December 18, 2017, the Department of Transportation (DOT) released details on the initial 90-day waiver from the requirement for agricultural and livestock haulers to obtain Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs). The 90-day waiver begins December 18th and allows the agency time to further examine our exemption request while developing additional guidance for agricultural haulers.
On September 12, 2017, Farm Bureau, National Pork Producers Council, National Cattleman’s Beef Association, and five other livestock, aquaculture and beekeeping organizations petitioned the Department of Transportation (DOT) for a waiver and limited exemption from the ELD mandate for drivers who haul livestock, live fish and insects.
On December 18, 2017, the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) ELD mandate will go into effect except for those transporting agricultural commodities and livestock. Those haulers will be granted an initial 90-day waiver from compliance. (more…)
The Wyoming Livestock Board wants to remind people that the delinquent brand period is about to draw to a close on the 2017 renewal period. Any delinquent brands that were not renewed by December 31, 2017, will be declared abandoned and be available to be applied for by other applicants. As part of the abandoned process all delinquent brands not renewed before December 31, 2017, will be moved to the abandoned brand category January 8, 2018. (more…)
LARAMIE, Nov. 28, 2017–Wyoming families facing hunger received a boost mid-November with the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Committee “Harvest for All” project. The annual fund drive to benefit the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies raised the equivalent of 10,021 meals for Wyoming families. (more…)
