Farm Bureau, NASDA Seek Delay of Unlawful EPA Rule – Dec. 22, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C., December 22, 2016 – The American Farm Bureau Federation and the National Association of State Departments of Agriculture have petitioned the Environmental Protection Agency to delay the January 2017 start date of its worker protection safety rule. AFBF and NASDA cited EPA violations of federal law as well as incomplete and undelivered compliance and enforcement tools to support their petition.

Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference Jan. 20-21 in Jackson

Your Farm Bureau” is the theme of the Jan. 20-21, 2017 Wyoming Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Conference in Jackson, Wyo.   The conference is open to all young agricultural producers between the ages of 18-35 (no membership necessary) and all Farm Bureau members. Children are welcome.

Veterinary Feed Directive will require enhanced communication between vets and producers – Dec. 16, 2016

Industry professionals say the Veterinary Feed Directive (VFD) that will take effect at the end of this year will require stronger communication between ranchers who use feed-based antibiotics and their veterinarians. The VFD is intended to encourage judicious use of antibiotics within the industry, addressing concerns some people have that antibiotics are becoming less effective in treating human illness.

Cowboy Fans headed to the University of Wyoming (UW) Cowboy Basketball game vs. Denver University on Nov. 30 can check all items off this list above. The Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation has partnered with UW Sports to hold a “Wyoming Needs Agriculture/Harvest for All” event to benefit the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies (WFBR). WFBR, Wyoming’s only food bank, serves hunger relief agencies in all of Wyoming’s 23 counties.

Eastern Wyoming College student Chelsea Baars wins Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet – Nov. 18, 2016

Eastern Wyoming College student Chelsea Baars discussed agriculture issues at a recent Wyoming Farm Bureau Young Farmer & Rancher Collegiate Discussion Meet and earned $300 cash and an expense-paid trip to Pittsburgh, Penn. Baars competed Nov. 10 in the event held in Laramie. Seventeen competitors representing Sheridan College, Eastern Wyoming College, and the University of Wyoming entered the competition.

Wyoming Farm Bureau sets policy for coming year; elects leaders – Nov. 17, 2016

LARAMIE—Dissolution of special districts, penalties for wanton destruction of livestock, trespassing for shed antler hunters, and speed limiting devices were among the many topics included in policies adopted at the 97th annual meeting of the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation (WyFB). Held Nov. 10-12, 2016 in Laramie, Wyo., the meeting is an important step in the grassroots policy development process of Farm Bureau.

Crook County’s Frank Hawken receives Wyoming Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award – Nov. 15, 2016

LARAMIE—Frank Hawken, of Crook County, was awarded the 2016 Wyoming Farm Bureau Distinguished Service Award at the 97th annual meeting of the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation (WyFB). Presented Nov. 11, the award is given to those who have gone above and beyond in their service to agriculture.

“Frank is the epitome of a true servant leader who has dedicated his life to serving Farm Bureau in any manner possible,” the Crook County Farm Bureau Federation wrote in their nomination letter. “He leads by example and hard work.”
