Wyoming families facing hunger received a boost this past week with the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation Young Farmer & Rancher (YF&R) Committee “Harvest for All” project.  The annual food and fund drive to benefit Feeding America food bank affiliates in Wyoming raised the equivalent of 6,608 meals for Wyoming families.

The 2010 “Harvest for All” project benefited the Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies (WFBR); the Manna House in Cody; and Interfaith Good Samaritan in Laramie.  During the state annual meeting held Nov. 11-13 in Cody, Wyoming Farm Bureau members participated in the food and fund drive to benefit the WFBR and the Manna House in Cody.  County Farm Bureaus from across the state donated food and money to help the food banks in their work with hunger-relief programs across the state of Wyoming and in Cody.

The Wyoming Food Bank of the Rockies was the recipient of $1,310 in monetary donations which is equivalent to 5,240 meals.

The Manna House in Cody received 246 pounds of food and a $100 monetary donation equaling a total of 592 meals.

In the name of the “Harvest for All” project, Mountain West Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company home office employees in Laramie donated food and funds equivalent to 776 meals to Interfaith Good Samaritan in Laramie.

The WyFB Young Farmer & Rancher Committee has joined with the American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R Committee in what is called a “Harvest for All.”

“It’s America’s first harvesters helping America’s Second Harvest to feed the millions of Americans who face hunger,” Chalsey Kortes, WyFB YF&R State Chair, said.  “The program consists of contributions of time, money and food to work together to make sure that every American can enjoy the bounty produced on our farms and ranches.”

“It was so exciting to donate food and funds that will provide over 6,000 meals to families in need across Wyoming,” Kortes concluded.
