YF&R Regular Discussion Meet

2017 Competition: Nov. 18, 2017 in Cheyenne

The Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. The judges are looking for the contestant that offers constructive criticism, cooperation, and communication while analyzing agricultural problems and developing solutions. Prizes:

The winner of the WyFB Discussion Meet contest receives the following:

  • $500 cash prize
  • Trip to AFBF annual meeting held in January to compete in the National Discussion Meet.

In the event any of the above event prizes/awards are unavailable, WyFB reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable value in its sole discretion.

YF&R Collegiate Discussion Meet

2017 Collegiate Discussion Meet–Nov. 16, 2017 in Cheyenne

Application and Manual

Application deadline is November 1, 2017

The Collegiate Discussion Meet contest is designed to simulate a committee meeting where discussion and active participation are expected from each college-age participant. This competition is evaluated on an exchange of ideas and information on a pre-determined topic. The judges are looking for the contestant that offers constructive criticism, cooperation, and communication while analyzing agricultural problems and developing solutions. The competition is open to all University of Wyoming and Wyoming junior college students with an interest in agriculture.

The winner will receive a $300 cash prize and expense reimbursement to the national competition Feb. 16-19, 2018 in Reno, Nevada.

Prizes

The winner of the WyFB Collegiate Discussion Meet will receive:

  • $300 cash prize from Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation
  • Trip to the American Farm Bureau Federation YF&R Conference held in February to compete in the national competition for college scholarships

In the event any of the above event prizes/awards are unavailable, WyFB reserves the right to substitute a prize of comparable value in its sole discretion.

The runner-up receives:

  • $150 cash award from the Wyoming Farm Bureau Federation

YF&R Achievement Award

Designed to recognize those young farmers and ranchers that have excelled in their farming/ranching operations and honed their leadership abilities to superiority. The contestants will be evaluated on a combination of their farming operation growth and financial progress of operation, Farm Bureau leadership, as well as leadership outside of Farm Bureau. More specifically, the judges will be looking for excellence in management, growth and scope of the enterprise and self-initiative that have been displayed throughout the operation. A contestant’s participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations is a definite point getter from the judges.

This competition is judged by the applications that are submitted. The application includes questions about your personal background, agricultural operation and leadership background.  The ideal candidate(s) for the Achievement Award is an individual or couple involved in production agriculture with a majority of their income subject to normal production risks.

YF&R Excellence in Agriculture Award

Designed as an opportunity for young farmers & ranchers, while actively contributing and growing through their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture, to earn recognition. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, involvement and participation in Farm Bureau and other organizations. This competition is judged by the applications that are submitted. The application includes questions about your personal background, agricultural operation, leadership background and answers to three leadership and agricultural questions.  The ideal candidate(s) for the Excellence in Agriculture Award is an individual or couple who do not have the majority of their income subject to normal production risk.
